Diving in Coron

White eye MorrayLocated at the northern end of Palawan, the Calamian Group with Busuanga, Culion and Coron Island is worldwide known for fantastic wreck diving. Several Japanese Shipwrecks from World War II are in diveable depth in the Coron Bay.  

Forum Diving

Most wrecks are in the range of 7 – 30 meters (20 – 100 feet) and are perfect for recreational diving.
The deeper wrecks have quite some fishing nets caught on them, so divers need to approach them very carefully.


The WW II wrecks have been one of the diving-secrets of the Philippines. It is a condensed version of Micronesia’s Truk Lagoon. The accommodation around Coron is limited but investors are building new resorts around the area. The visibility is not that good, but can still reach some 25 meters (80 feet). The currents are not that strong. . The area around the wrecks has pleasant rock formations which provide for excellent snorkeling opportunities.

Busuanga has a small Airport and is served by SEA Air and Asian Spirit. The small domestic Airlines offer daily flights to Manila and three times a week to Puerto Princessa, the capital of Palawan. If you have the time you should consider a land-trip from Puerto Princessa with a stop-over in El Nido. A visit to Coron can be perfectly combined with a dive-safari to the world-heritage-side in the Sulu sea, the Tubbataha Reef.
