Default Safety issue in the Philippines

I read again in our papers about the increasing criminality in the Philippines. Can you guys who are there say something about it?
Are other than Mindanao some regions who should be avoided?
General advices?

Mindanao is a huge Island anyway and has also many safe places. I am in the Philippines at the moment and can't see or feel any difference from my last visit...

Mindanao is famous in the international medias as the home of Terror in the Philippines. If you stay in "normal" areas or in the Resort you will have no problem at all. You won't get in contact with any "bad" boys. Your behavior should follow common sense when traveling exotic countries and experience foreign culture
