The Tapilon Wreck in Malapascua is east of Dakit Dakit island. The wreck lies in a depth of 23 meters to 30 meters. During World War II it was a Japanese cargo carrier which was hit by several torpedoes. Because of that the torpedo impact, the cargo carrier broke into pieces and lies in several section of the bottom of the ocean. Despite the big damage, the Tapilon Wreck is still recognizable as a ship wreck.
In the wreck is an abundance of aquatic life and beautiful soft corals are covering the outside of the remaining parts. Many flat worm species, moray eels, squid, scorpion fish and nudibranches can be found at the Tapilon Wreck.
Sometimes you can see also the huge marble rays as well as colonies of fire sea urchin accompanied with very rare Coleman’s shrimp and the urchin crab. Several of the rarest and most famous critters like pipefish, seahorses and frogfish are residing in and around the wreck and can be spotted by the trained dive guides.
Divers looking for beautiful corals and like wreck, the Tapilon wreck is an ideal dive site for a great experience.
Due to the distance the divespot is usually planned as a daytrip with two or three dives on the wreck or in combination with some other divesites which lay on the way
Divers who submerge to the Tapilon with Nitrox extend their bottom time extremely and have more time to look for the fascinating aqutic life around the Wreck.
