Odies Ding Ding

Odies Ding Ding is an advanced dive-site just outside Manila Channel. It is a blue water descent to 25 meters where you hit the top of a wall which drops down to 42 meters. Te wall is covered with huge gorgonian fans and you can see countless red-tooth triggerfish hiding in the cracks and holes along Odies Ding Ding. Watch out for Mantis-Shrimps and rare nudibranches when hovering along the wall.

Different species of stingrays can be seen around the sandy patches at the bottom of the wall. The top is covered with huge black corals and sponges where frogfishes are hiding. The depth of Odies Ding Ding makes it to a great Nitrox dive.

Sweetlip Corner – Marcus Cave

Sweetlip corner is a dive-spot beyond recreational diving limits but a great site for technical diving just off the entry to Batangas Channel. The bottom is sloping gently down to 40 meters, where it ends in a wall which drops down to 60 meters. Marcus Cave is a nice cavern, where you can find some nice deepwater Reef-fish like different Emperors and Batfish around. Also watch out for Reef sharks and Tunas.

Sweetlip Corner at the east has a nice swim through on 50 meters and is famous for the sightings of larger pelagic; even Manta’s have been spotted around this area.

The dive is best done on slack tide when there is almost no current with a drifting decompression stop.

Mahmouds Reef

Another side for technical diving is Mahmouds Reef just in front of Coco Beach, starting at 30 meters and going down to a depth of 44 meters. Some parallel walls and ridges are divided by a sandy valley. At the deepest point is a small swim-through. That spot is perfect to hide from the current and watch the active fish life.

Divers can also explore the surroundings and will find some coral – encrusted anchors, where the origin remains a mystery. Due to the currents, the oral and fish life is very active for that depth.

The decompression is also done while drifting into open water, followed by a boat-pick-up.
